Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh has announced that a first-of-its-kind One Window System will be introduced in Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, effective after Jan 2014. Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, an autonomous body set up in the 90s, is working selflessly for the welfare of the poor class of the country. It provides range of services in different domains such as education and health, with specific emphasis on assistance of the weak such as orphans, widows, invalids etc.
The purpose of the system is to provide assisting facilities to the deserving masses at one counter, without letting them have to suffer the additional pain of wandering around in order to get things done. Government welfare bodies are normally inefficient in Pakistan and their functioning proves to be too complex and bothersome for the people in need. The processing of applications take so long a period of time that the needy does not remain needy anymore.
For the implementation of One Window System, it is planned that counters will be made at all Public hospitals, where quick and efficient completion of formalities will take place and outcomes will be generated within a span of 24 hour. Applicants will also be provided the facility of checking the status of their applications through Short Messaging Service.
Recently, the new government has taken a number of steps for improving the current situation. According to Mr. Sheikh, he aims to remove the loopholes present in the functioning of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He also hopes that the improvement initiatives will help Pakistan to move ahead on its way to become a welfare state.
The plans include increased transparency and digitalization of the system, to get it more reliable and effective. There’s an on-going Pakistan Sweet Home project, which is planned to be expanded. Awareness campaigns will be launched for the rural areas to urge the people there to apply for grants.
