Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi govt cut 50% electricity tariff



Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister of Delhi declared this after a cabinet meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday December, 31. According to this declaration, 50% price will be reduced for those who consume up to 400 units every month. Earlier, Kejriwal announced that three power distribution companies will be audited within 24 hours and the final decision will be taken by Wednesday evening.

Kejriwal said that the power tariff cut will be applicable from January 1, 2014. To reduce the half price of electricity was his one of the major pre-poll promises.

The Chief Minister said that this decision of reducing electricity tariff would benefit 28 lakh of the total 34 lakh consumers in the city. This decision would mean an additional burden of RS 200 crore on the exchequer till March 2014 where the actual outflow of money will only be Rs. 61 crore. The remaining money will be adjusted against the RS. 4500 crore with the distribution companies which they already owe to the Delhi government.

In reaction to the declaration the power distribution companies said that the government will have to first apprise the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission of the decision before the new tariff is implemented.

On Monday December 30,2013 Kejrial delivered another announcement which he had promised to voters- free water. His government has declared that every household in Delhi with a working meter will receive nearly 700 liters of free water.

Kejrial and his AAP led government has fulfilled two of its biggest pre-poll promises within four days of being in power.
