E-Cardiology introduced in Pakistan by a renowned local hospital[/caption]
A renowned Pakistani Hospital, ‘Indus Hospital’ introduced E-Cardiology for the very first time in the country’s medical history. This facility is wide-acceptable and growing service that is provided to heart patients for monitoring and immediate help when required, by electronic means. Health information management system along with the cardiology squad of the Indus Hospital has made possible any video or image transfer right from the hospital room to directly unto the cardiologist’s mobile phone in a matter of seconds. In this way, cardiologist’s can deal with sudden emergency’s that may arise with the heart patient through the help of E-Cardiology system at the hospital.
The staff at the duty, after the implementation of E-cardiology, can now easily transfer an X-Ray image, echocardiogram, lab report, coronary angiogram or an ECG to the doctor’s cellular in no time. According to the Hospitals spokesman’s, this technique has already shown quite impressiveness and proved immensely helpful in saving many lives as the time has remarkably minimized a cardiologist take to reach on a decisive state about a patient’s condition. This has also proved to be very cost-effective indeed, as the transfer of each image only takes up to 6 rupees (0.6 U.S Dollars).
“One of the most basic reason for cardiac deaths in Pakistan has been the hindrance in detection of and dealing with a heart patient,” stated by Dr. Imran Iftikhar, Consultant Cardiologist at the Indus Hospital. “Quite recent, an ECG has been sent to me on my mobile in the small hours from emergency room, while a clot buster medication being given to him on time saved his life and prevented a major heart attack.”
While these implications of E-Cardiology system continue to benefit the patients, another notable development that took place is an emergency response system inside the premises of the hospital that alerts combined on-duty emergency staff and on-call cardiologists on their phones. Indus Hospital is now involved in creating a recording module that will record on-treatment patient’s heartbeat alongside his electronically evolved medical record file.
